Haiti's Latest Cholera Outbreak Subsides

After more than three years without a reported cholera case in the Republic of Haiti, national authorities said a new outbreak began in October 2022.
According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Situation Report #6, cholera cases continue to spread, but at a reduced rate, to new areas of Haiti's capital.
As of November 15, 2022, the Department of Epidemiology, Laboratories, and Research confirmed 821 cases of Cholera across 27 municipalities.
The most affected communes in the Ouest department are Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Cité Soleil, and Carrefour.

Ebola Screening Activated in the U.K.

The United Kingdom (U.K.) recently announced they would follow the U.S. in screening certain air travelers from the Republic of Uganda.
The U.K. Health Security Agency (UKHSA) confirmed on November 14, 2022, all workers returning to the U.K. from areas affected by Ebola should be risk assessed.
Most departing flights to the U.K. are from Kampala, the country's capital city, and land at London Heathrow Airport.
This action is related to Uganda's Sudan Ebolavirus (SUDV) outbreak.

The TSA Security Directive 1544-21-03A becomes effective on November 9, 2022, and applies to non-US citizens until at least January 8, 2023, to limit the risk of COVID-19, including virus variants.

Caribbean Destinations May Require Yellow Fever Vaccination

Visiting the Caribbean Islands this winter may require proof of vaccination for a potentially severe disease spread by common mosquitos. 
The Dominican Republic's General Immigration Directorate recently confirmed that most visitors arriving from Brazil, Colombia, or Venezuela must present a yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter the country, reported Fragomen in October 2022.
The Dominican Republic previously implemented yellow fever vaccination requirements for certain travelers from Brazil and Venezuela but suspended the requirement in July 2022.

Malaria Infections Prevented with Monoclonal Antibody

A recent U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) clinical trial found for the first time one dose of an antibody drug safely protected healthy, non-pregnant adults from malaria infection during an intense six-month malaria season in Africa.
The antibody was up to 88.2% effective at preventing infection over 24 weeks, demonstrating that a monoclonal antibody can prevent malaria infection in an endemic region.
The NIH says there is an urgent need for new, fast-acting, infrequently dosed interventions that safely protect against malaria infection.

San Juan Children Offered Dengue Vaccination

After years of planning, a vaccine-preventable disease impact may soon be curtailed in Puerto Rico. Dengue viruses have been impacting residents for decades.
Approximately 95% of locally acquired dengue cases in the U.S. have occurred in Puerto Rico.
The U.S. CDC says dengue infection mortality ranges are less than 1% if treated appropriately but can reach 15% if untreated.
Puerto Rico's Department of Health Arboviral Disease Report indicates that 574 confirmed, 261 related hospitalizations, 73 severe cases, and two dengue deaths were reported in 2021.
