The World Health Organization (WHO) published External Situation Report #3 on June 1, 2023, confirming that cholera outbreaks are ongoing in 24 countries.
Since April 2023, further cholera spread has continued to be reported in the Horn of Africa, especially around the Mandera triangle, where the borders of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia meet.

Polio Vaccinations for 21 Million Children

Africa's most extensive polio vaccination campaign since 2020, launched in May 2023 to immunize 21 million children under five.
Vaccinations began in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger before being extended to the Central African Republic in response to 14 detections of type-2 poliovirus in 2023.
The multi-country initiative is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) through the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and comprises synchronized vaccinations and joint plans in border communities to halt polio transmission.

Marburg Outbreak Terminated in Tanzania

The United Republic of Tanzania today declared the end of the Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak after two months. This was the country’s first MVD outbreak of the disease.
As of June 2, 2023, nine cases and six related fatalities were recorded in the outbreak declared on March 21, 2023.
The last confirmed case tested negative for the second test of MVD was on April 19, 2023, setting off the 42-day mandatory countdown to declare the end of the outbreak.
