Mpox Outbreaks Have Not Ended

While the international community has focused on the extensive mpox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this sexually transmitted disease has resurfaced in the United States.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of the week ending March 30, 2024 (Week #13), there were 664 mpox cases in the U.S.
New York (142), California (67), and Texas (43) are the leading states reporting mpox cases in 2024.
This data compares with just 307 reported in the same period in 2023.

Dengue Outbreaks Continue in the Caribbean

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) recently joined the U.S. CDC in issuing dengue outbreak warnings for the Region of the Americas.
As of March 26, 2024, over 3.5 million cases and more than 1,000 deaths have been reported in the Americas.
"This is cause for concern, as it represents three times more cases than those reported for the same period in 2023, a record year with more than 4.5 million cases reported in the region," PAHO Director Jarbas Barbosa said during a recent press briefing.
